Split ends are the curse of every woman!! Split ends happen when the protective cuticle has been stripped away from the ends of hair. Hair splits into two or three strands. The hair usually splits at the end of the hair forming a Y-shape. Split ends can travel up the hair. The split may be two or three centimeters in length. Split ends are more often in long hair but can also be found in shorter hair. You cannot repair them; nothing will fix split ends once they are formed.
Split Ends cannot be mended, the only lon-term cure is to have them snipped off. What is lost in the length will be gained in quality. It may help if you reduce the frequency with which you shampoo, as this in itself is stressful to hair and causes split ends to extend up the hair shaft. Never use a dryer too near the hair, or set it on too high a temperature. Minimize the use of heated appliances. Split ends cannot be mended, just temporarily sealed. The only permanent cure is to have your hair trimmed regularly.
Other reasons are
-Dry scalp
-Exposure to extreme temperature and chemical products like relaxers and hair colour.

Once the hair is split the only cure is to trim. So, trim your hair with the help of these guidelines.
Sit near a natural light source may be near the window or outdoors in the yard to see the split ends properly.
Take a small section of hair and twist them in a downward motion. This will make the split ends to stick out automatically.
Use a sharp scissor to snip off the split ends. Make sure you cut the damaged cuticles only. This will also enhance a natural layered effect with a thick bounce.
It will take at least 45 minutes to go all around the head. Do it every six weeks lest the splits will travel up the hair and worsen the damage.
Massage & steam your hair
Twice a week massage your hair for at least 10-15 minutes using warm coconut, olive or mustard oil. After this, steam your hair for 5-7 minutes. For this, dip a towel in hot water, squeeze out the water and wrap around your head. This will ensure that the oil penetrates your hair and blood circulation in the roots improves, due to which the oil glands will secrete optimum levels of “sebum” or natural oils. Apart from this, wash your hair with amla (gooseberries) & shikakai. This will cure the dryness in the hair to a large extent. You may get an “ozone treatment” for your hair from a good beauty parlor.
