Anxiety is the tense, unsettling anticipation of a threatening but vague event; a feeling of uneasy suspense. It is a negative affect so closely related to fear that in many circumstances the two terms are used interchangeably; like anxiety, fear also is a combination of tension and unpleasant anticipation. But distinctions can be made between the causes, duration and maintenance of fear and of anxiety.
While the exact cause of anxiety and panic attacks is not fully understood, the following factors appear to contribute to its development:

The body’s chemical processes, one’s life experiences, and many other factors play a role. There can be specific elements of your life and environment that make you anxious and contribute to the problem of anxiety, such as work pressure, academic expectations, or major illness, or there can be a general existential crisis. •Genetics: if you have a family history of anxiety, there is a high chance of it being passed on.
•Stress or Trauma: the death of a loved one, divorce, difficulties at work/school, or other stressful events are known to increase the chances of developing anxiety or a panic attack.
•Addictive Substances: using or withdrawal from caffeine, nicotine, or alcohol can contribute to the development of anxiety.
Symptoms of Anxiety
Anxiety is a psychological and physiological state that results in a feeling of restlessness/uneasiness, worry, tension, and irritability. This anxiousness can also result in some physical symptoms such as:
•Headaches
•Jaw pain or tightness
•Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
•Muscle tension
•Dry mouth
•Fatigue
•Tightness in the chest
•Indigestion
•Bloating
•Sweating/perspiring without physical activity
•Difficulty concentrating
Anxiety which occurs suddenly is often referred to as a panic attack, and can be characterized by the following additional symptoms:
•Hyperventilation (taking short, rapid breaths)
•Dizziness or faintness (as a result of hyperventilating)
•Difficulty swallowing
•Shaking or muscle spasms
•Numbness and tingling of the mouth, hands, or feet
•Heart palpitations
Note that since many of the symptoms of anxiety are also characterized by other medical conditions, you should consult your doctor for a proper diagnosis.
Home remedies
The root of the Kava Kava shrub contains kavalactones, an active ingredient that is known to have a sedative effect which is great for treating anxiety and panic attacks. It is often consumed as a tea, but can also be found in capsule, tablet, and liquid extract forms. A kava capsule of 40 to 75 mg is often recommended three times per day to treat anxiety. Note that it is recommended that you consult your doctor before using Kava to treat anxiety, particularly if you are currently taking any prescription medications. Kavalactones can cause indigestion, headaches, and drowsiness in some individuals, so discontinue use if you experience any of these side effects. It is also important not to use Kava if you are pregnant
Aromatherapy is a good treatment for anxiety, and you can do it on your own. Lavender oil is particularly effective, but you can also use jasmine or sandalwood.
Chamomile is an excellent herb for treating anxiety and insomnia. Simply drink 2 cups of Chamomile tea each day to help calm and relax your body. Note that you should avoid the use of Chamomile if you are pregnant, or if you are currently taking blood thinners.
Do not hide your worries and fears. Talk to family members or friends you can trust about you worries and the injustices you have suffered. Emotional release is a good, natural necessity in mental health. When you share them, the toxicity disappears.
Don't eat spicy food such as onions, ginger, and pepper. Anxiety is caused by internal fire. The spicy food could ignite the fire.
Exercise regularly.
Be sure to sleep well.
Calcium and amino acid can help to calm you down anxiety.
Vitamin deficiencies - Vitamin B in particular can often cause anxiety. Try taking a daily supplement of a B-complex tablet.
Learn some meditation and yoga techniques to calm yourself. If nothing else, closing your eyes and breathing deeply will do. These techniques can be used whenever you start to get an anxiety attack, and also as part of your daily routine.
A daily workout will help you calm down. The physical exertion itself helps fight anxiety, plus it prompts your body to produce certain chemicals that calm you and make you feel good.
When you feel an anxiety attack coming on, you can have a cold shower or soak in a warm bath, whichever works for you.
When you start to feel stressed out, drink a whole glass of water, or else sit back and sip a cup of tea.
For reducing anxiety -encourage verbalization, diverting the mind like by looking television or by telling some good stories. In this way one can reduce the anxiety.
When anxiety arises, try to say few numbers from one to twenty or saying tables etc. In this way also you can control your anxiety.
